What in the World?!

I always thought it would have been interesting to know what music, television shows, books, pop culture, & fashion was popular when my Mom was pregnant with me. I guess that’s what’s inspiring this entry. I want our child to know what’s “cool” right now as he/she is about to arrive into the world. (Ok, and maybe a little bit so when our child goes back to look at pictures of his/her Mom & Dad we can say “see, such in such WAS popular back in the day.” Haha!) Growing up, I think every child teases their parents about that type of stuff – and I was certainly no exception. I remember teasing my parents about their hairstyles and what they did to mine. Thanks again for the mushroom cut – LOL. I also remember teasing them about their choice of fashion, however I now know that WAS the style back in the 70’s. I guess I think by writing, not only this excerpt but this journal it will reinforce to our child that Dave & I were cool once upon a time (or at least that’s what I’d like to think). So anyway, here’s the world according to Natalie…popular type of music – R&B/Rap (i.e., Justin Timberlake, Fergie, & Rihanna, however my favorite is (and has been since h.s.) The Dave Matthews Band. Television Shows – Reality tv is ultra popular right now. Shows like American Idol, Bachelor/Bachelorette, The Hills & Real World have exploded! Personally, my favorite reality tv show is The Hills. Gotta love Lauren trying to make it in LA's fashion world, partying with her friends and trying to find a good guy all at the same time. Books – Since I haven’t heard of any of the top 5 bestsellers (and since I’m a biography junky), the most popular non-fiction books at the time are: Big Russ and Me by: Tim Russert, What Happened by Scott McClellan, The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama and Audition by Barbara Walters. Pop culture - The Sex & the City movie just came out (it was AWESOME!), Mariah Carey made the comeback of her life and more celebrities are either pregnant or went to rehab this year than I can count. Fashion - black leggings, free flowing/patterned shirts have come back in style (yes, it makes it a great time to be pregnant!). Big purses, layered necklaces, over-sized sunglasses, and scarves are the must-have accessories.
