"I Hear Two Heartbeats!"

This morning Dave & I had an appointment with Dr. Horlacher to hear our baby's heartbeat. Dr. Horlacher is such a great guy (and also a UD alum, so he got an extra point in Dave's book - LOL!).

The appointment began by Dr. Horlacher placing a gel like solution on my stomach and using a tool called a doppler to begin searching for the baby's heartbeat. The doppler looked like a wand w/ a speaker on the end of it. When Dr. Horlacher said “I hear two heartbeats”, I thought I was going to loose my breakfast. Luckily he clarified that one was mine & the other was the baby's. Shhheewww! Twins run in Dave’s family so having two wasn’t completely out of the question.

After calming down from the rush, we finally heard our child’s heartbeat. It was faint at first but once he was able to better locate the baby, you could hear the heartbeat loud and clear. It felt so “official”!

Our child’s heartbeat was 156 beats/minute. Some would say 156 = boy, however according to Dr. Horlacher it’s too early to tell. He said every baby’s heart beats fast when they are young (and who knows, maybe the heartbeat shot up after I turned ghostly white from the possibility of having twins?! LOL.)

Overall, our appointment was light-hearted & amazing. I’ve never looked forward to Dr.’s appointments as much I do now. There is always something new to experience and look forward to which makes me excited for future appointments. Our next appointment is on August 5 for a check-up and on September 11 we find out the gender of our baby. We can't wait!!! In the meantime, keep checking back for more updates.
