Tonight Dave & I had our first childbirth class (the first of four). I don't think Dave was super excited about going (the classes are 2.5 hours/every Wed. throughout October), but I was. I'm ready to learn as much as I can before Payton comes home. Our instructor's name was Julie. She was really nice, informative and a nurse at Miami Valley hospital. Tonight’s session covered labor/delivery.
One of my major fears regarding the delivery process is showing up at the hospital before it's time. I think it would be very embarrassing, however after tonight's class and a "cheat sheet" Julie passed out I'm more confident that won't happen. Julie taught us how to time our contractions and when to know if we're really having a contraction or Braxton hicks (aka hiccups as I accidentally called them in class – LOL!)
Dave teased me constantly throughout the entire class. I think I embarrassed him being vocal - answering almost all of Julie's questions and asking quite a few of my own. I'm sure I looked like a "teacher’s pet", but oh well. Over the past 5.5 months, I've read quite a few pregnancy books, websites, and pamphlets and still have a lot of unanswered questions. Educating myself has been the best way to ease my fears/anticipations.
Class ended by us watching a video of a real birth...it was AMAZING! Next class we're discussing relaxation techniques. Dave joked, saying we should attend even if we weren't pregnant - LOL. Well, I'm off to do my homework for our next class! More updates on our classes later.
